Key facts
- PayPal's Acceptable Use Policy requires pre-approval for gambling, including casino games, sports betting and racing, and only where the operator and customers are in jurisdictions that permit it.
- Online casino games and online pokies cannot legally be offered to people in Australia, so an offshore casino serving Australians does not fit that condition.
- None of the four partners that publish a payments page lists PayPal; the others show methods only after you log in.
- Licensed bookmakers do take PayPal, with rules: Sportsbet needs the PayPal account funded by a debit card, and TAB pays withdrawals only to the PayPal used to deposit.
- Since 11 June 2024 a PayPal balance funded by a credit card cannot be used with a licensed wagering provider.
Do online casinos in Australia take PayPal?
Hardly ever, and for a reason that sits in PayPal's own rules. PayPal's Australian Acceptable Use Policy (last updated 29 October 2022) puts "Gambling, Gaming, Prize Draws and Contests" on its list of activities that need PayPal's approval before a business can accept payments for them. The approval covers "casino games, sports betting, horse or greyhound racing, fantasy sports, lottery tickets", and it only applies "if the operator and customers are located exclusively in jurisdictions where such activities are permitted by law."
Online casino games and online pokies are prohibited services under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 when they are offered to people in Australia. So an offshore casino taking Australian players does not fit PayPal's condition as written. Sports and racing betting with a licensed Australian bookmaker does, which is why PayPal shows up at Sportsbet or TAB and not at offshore casino cashiers.
What we found at our partners
None of our partners lists PayPal. Four of them publish their payment methods without a login (read 9 October 2026):
| Partner | Deposit methods listed | PayPal? |
|---|---|---|
| LuckyOnes | Credit card, MiFinity, CashToCode, crypto | No |
| VegasNow | Credit card, MiFinity, CashToCode, crypto | No |
| Lucky Dreams | Credit card, MiFinity, CashToCode, crypto | No |
| Wanted Win | Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, Apple Pay, MiFinity, bank transfer, crypto | No |
The others show their methods only inside the cashier after you log in, so we cannot say what they offer. If you want a wallet that offshore casinos do list, our MiFinity guide covers the one that appears on all four pages above.
How licensed bookmakers handle PayPal
PayPal works with licensed Australian bookmakers, and their help pages show the rules you will meet. All figures below come from each bookmaker's own help centre, read 8 October 2026.
| Bookmaker | PayPal deposits | PayPal withdrawals | Extra rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| bet365 | $50 to $12,500, instant | $20 to $12,500, 1 to 4 hours | Debit card deposits start at $5 |
| Sportsbet | Instant, $5 minimum for all methods | Up to one business day | PayPal must be funded by a debit card; bank account funding not permitted; PayPal email must match your account |
| TAB | Combined daily cap with Apple Pay and Google Pay | Instant up to your PayPal daily withdrawal limit, minimum $0.01 | Only to the PayPal used to deposit; blocked until your identity is verified |
The debit-only rule at Sportsbet traces straight back to the credit card ban, covered below. Our TAB review and bet365 review go through the rest of each operator's payment terms.
Worked example: a small first deposit
You want to put $30 into a new bet365 account. PayPal's $50 minimum rules it out, but a debit card from $5 does not. Then you win $15 and want it back: the PayPal withdrawal minimum is $20, so that payout has to go another way or wait. Minimums like these matter more than the headline "PayPal accepted".
PayPal and the credit card ban
Since 11 June 2024, licensed online and phone wagering providers cannot accept a credit card or "funds linked to a credit card (including digital wallets)". PayPal is a digital wallet, so a PayPal balance topped up from a credit card is caught by the ban, while one funded from a debit card or bank account is not. Our credit card gambling guide covers the law, the penalties and the cash advance fees banks charge when a card is used for gambling.
Online pokies with PayPal: why the offer is a warning sign
Real money online pokies cannot legally be offered to people in Australia. A site that offers Australians real money pokies and a PayPal button is therefore either not what it claims to be, or using PayPal in a way PayPal's policy does not allow. ACMA warns that people who use illegal operators risk losing their money, and no Australian body can step in if a payout never arrives.
Things to check before you pay any gambling site through a wallet:
- Is the payment going through a PayPal checkout, or to a person's account? A transfer to an individual is not a casino cashier.
- Who is the merchant name on the payment screen? It should match the site you joined.
- Is the site a licensed Australian bookmaker? If it offers online pokies or casino games, it is not.
- Where will winnings go? Many offshore casinos pay out only by bank transfer, e-wallet or crypto.
Pundit tip: if you like PayPal because it keeps your card details away from the site, a debit card inside PayPal gives you that without any credit risk at a licensed bookmaker.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use PayPal at an online casino in Australia?
Rarely, and none of our partners lists it. PayPal requires pre-approval for gambling and only where the operator and customers are in places where the activity is legal. Online casino games cannot legally be offered to Australians, so offshore casinos generally do not meet that test.
Are there online pokies with PayPal?
Not legally for real money. Online pokies cannot be offered to people in Australia under the Interactive Gambling Act, so a real money pokies site offering PayPal to Australians is a reason for caution, not comfort.
Which betting sites accept PayPal in Australia?
Several licensed bookmakers do, including Sportsbet, TAB and bet365. Each sets its own rules: bet365's help pages list PayPal deposits of $50 to $12,500, and Sportsbet says your PayPal must be funded by a debit card.
Can I fund PayPal with a credit card to bet?
Not with a licensed provider. ACMA says the ban that started on 11 June 2024 covers funds linked to a credit card, including digital wallets, so a credit-funded PayPal balance is out.
How long do PayPal withdrawals take from a bookmaker?
It depends on the bookmaker. TAB says PayPal withdrawals are processed instantly up to your PayPal daily withdrawal limit, Sportsbet allows up to one business day, and bet365 lists 1 to 4 hours.
