TAB review: the biggest racing range, a 12pm withdrawal cut-off and $7.2m in ACMA penalties

TAB is Tabcorp's betting brand: tote pools, fixed odds, retail venues and the deepest racing range in Australia. It pays withdrawals within a business day, but its compliance record since 2024 is the worst we found.

Good

  • Tote, fixed odds and exotics across all three racing codes, plus retail venues
  • PayID deposits from $2 and instant PayPal withdrawals
  • Breaks from 1 to 180 days and separate spend limits

Watch out

  • Five ACMA penalties in under two years
  • EFT requests after midday wait a working day
  • $5.50 monthly fee on long-dormant accounts

Key facts

  • TAB takes bets in Victoria, NSW, Queensland, SA, Tasmania, the NT and the ACT. Your account is governed by the law of the state it is held in.
  • EFT withdrawals requested after 12pm AEST, or on a weekend, are actioned the next working day. PayPal withdrawals are instant up to your daily limit.
  • PayID deposits start at $2 with no TAB fee. Inactive accounts can be charged $5.50 a month after 13 months without activity.
  • ACMA penalties paid by Tabcorp since November 2024 add up to at least $7,237,270, for in-play bets, spam and BetStop breaches.
  • Safer gambling tools include 1 to 28 day deposit limits, spend limits and breaks of 1 to 180 days.

Verdict

TAB earns 6.8 out of 10. Its racing offer is built around the tote, with pools for every common exotic alongside fixed odds and a retail network, and its money rules are clear: withdrawals within one business day, PayID deposits from $2. What drags it down is the regulator's file. Tabcorp has paid ACMA penalties five times since November 2024, adding up to more than $7.2 million.

This is a desk review from TAB's help centre, its safer gambling site, Tabcorp's company page and ACMA releases, read on 8 October 2026. The main tab.com.au site told us it was "unavailable from your location", so we could not view the betting pages themselves.

Who runs TAB and how it is licensed

TAB is Tabcorp's wagering brand, which Tabcorp calls "Australia's biggest multichannel wagering brand". It takes bets throughout Victoria, NSW, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, the Northern Territory and the ACT; Western Australia is not on that list. Your account sits under one state: the conditions of use list TAB ACT, NSW TAB and VIC TAB, plus UBET accounts for Queensland, SA, the NT and Tasmania, each governed by that state's law. On the Northern Territory register, TAB appears as Ubet NT Pty Ltd, "Licensed by the Director of Totalisator Licensing and Regulation".

TAB withdrawal times

MethodWhen it is paidRules
EFT to your bankBefore 12pm AEST on a working day: normally available next morningAfter 12pm or on a weekend: actioned the following working day; one linked account
PayPalInstant, up to your PayPal daily limitOnly to the PayPal you deposited with; minimum $0.01
TAB venueOver the counterDigital or physical TAB account card

Clause 28.1(d) of the conditions sets the outer limit: Tabcorp will meet a withdrawal request within one business day, and your bank may take up to 3 more. Only turned-over funds are withdrawable, and a new account cannot withdraw until identity is verified.

Worked example, on our reading of the EFT terms: request $300 at 1pm on a Friday and it is actioned on Monday, so expect it on Tuesday morning. Make the same request at 11am on a Thursday and it should be there on Friday morning.

Deposits

TAB takes PayID, debit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal and a linked bank account. Your PayID is unique to your account, starts at $2, carries no TAB fee and must come from a bank account in your name. Apple Pay, PayPal and Google Pay share a daily cap that grows once you are verified: for example $1,000 for an unverified Bronze account and $20,000 once verified. Credit cards are out, as at every licensed bookmaker since the June 2024 credit ban. Your bank's own PayID cap also applies; see our PayID limit guide.

Bets, tote and cash out

TAB is the home of the tote, with pools for win, place, quinella, exacta, trifecta, first four, quaddie and Big 6, and since 22 September 2026 the state pools can combine into ONE POOL with one national dividend. The commission is high on exotics: 21.50% of the trifecta pool, 23% of first four. Our tote vs fixed odds guide shows when that costs you.

Cash out is narrower than at most rivals: some fixed odds singles and multis, plus Quaddies and Early Quaddies, the only tote bets eligible. Bonus bets, super-multis and trackside bets never qualify. In the app, Check & Collect scans a retail ticket and deposits a winner into your account, up to 20 tickets an hour, and same game multis are pre-game only.

ACMA record

DateBreachOutcome
Nov 2024854 in-play bets on 69 tennis matches, April to October 2023$262,920 penalty
Jun 2025More than 5,700 VIP marketing messages breaking spam law$4,003,270 and a 3-year undertaking
Jan 2026BetStop rule breaches in 2024$112,680 and an undertaking
Feb 2026426 in-play bets on 32 tennis matches$158,400
Jul 2026Do Not Call breaches and more than 217,000 messages to people who had unsubscribedMore than $2.7 million and an undertaking

Total: $262,920 + $4,003,270 + $112,680 + $158,400 + $2,700,000 = $7,237,270 at least. Tabcorp voided the 2023 tennis bets, so punters lost nothing on those, but a pattern of system failures is still a safety concern.

Safer gambling tools and fees

TAB offers deposit limits over 1, 7, 14 or 28 days, a separate spend limit over 1, 7 or 28 days, a Debit Card Limit set by phone, Take A Break for 1, 2, 3, 7, 14, 30, 90 or 180 days, self-exclusion and 12 months of statements in My Account. Decreases apply at once; increases wait 7 days.

The fee to know: after 13 continuous months without activity, a notice and a further month, an account maintenance fee of $5.50 a month (GST included) can apply. That is $66 a year off a forgotten balance.

Frequently asked questions

Is TAB legit?

Yes. TAB is run by Tabcorp, an ASX-listed company, under state wagering licences. Its NT accounts are listed on the Northern Territory register under Ubet NT Pty Ltd, licensed by the Director of Totalisator Licensing and Regulation.

How long does a TAB withdrawal take?

TAB's conditions say it meets withdrawal requests within one business day. EFT requests made before 12pm AEST on a working day are usually available the next morning; PayPal withdrawals are processed instantly up to your PayPal daily limit.

Does TAB charge a fee for inactive accounts?

It can. After 13 continuous months without activity, a notice and a further month, TAB may charge an account maintenance fee of $5.50 a month including GST.

Can I cash out a tote bet at TAB?

Only Quaddies and Early Quaddies, excluding Hong Kong. Cash out otherwise applies to some fixed odds singles and multis, never to bonus bets, super-multis or trackside bets.
