Neosurf voucher Australia: where to buy, values and checking your balance

A Neosurf voucher is cash turned into a 10-character PIN. Here is where Australians can buy one, the values sold here, how to check what is left on it, and how refunds work.

Prepaid voucher cards fanned out beside a corner shop and a magnifying glass over a code, for buying a Neosurf voucher

Key facts

  • A Neosurf voucher is a printed ticket with a 10-character PIN that works straight away, with no activation.
  • Neosurf's store locator lists Australia with more than 13,000 points of sale and voucher values of AUD 10, 50 and 100.
  • Check a balance only on Neosurf's own Check Voucher page, never on another site or over the phone.
  • Shops cannot refund a voucher. A refund goes through a myNeosurf account, needs ID checks and costs 5%.
  • Neosurf payments cannot be reversed, so anyone asking you to pay them with a voucher code is a red flag.

What a Neosurf voucher is

A Neosurf voucher is a prepaid ticket you buy with cash, printed with a secure 10-character PIN. You type that PIN into a website's checkout instead of card or bank details. Neosurf says the voucher can be used immediately, with no activation step, and that sites accepting it never see your banking details. Two other cash vouchers have their own guides: Paysafecard, which also uses a PIN, and CashtoCode, with paycode and eVoucher versions.

It works like cash in one more way: Neosurf's own FAQ says transactions cannot be reversed. Treat the PIN like a banknote.

Where to buy a Neosurf voucher in Australia

Neosurf's store locator shows Australia with more than 13,000 points of sale. The Australian vouchers are supplied through the distributor ePay, and the retailer logos the locator shows for Australia are Ampol, BP, Coles, EG Group and OTR. Neosurf's FAQ describes the usual places as kiosks, news stands, convenience stores, supermarkets and petrol stations.

Buying one in a store:

  1. Use the store locator on neosurf.com to find a nearby outlet, or ask at the counter of a petrol station or convenience store.
  2. Tell the cashier the value you want. Some stores also have hanging cards you take to the checkout.
  3. Pay in cash. The terminal prints a paper voucher with the PIN.
  4. Keep the receipt somewhere safe until the full value is spent.

You can also buy online from Neosurf's approved resellers. Neosurf notes that resellers are authorised third parties and that fees, charges or identification requirements may apply, so the price can be more than the face value.

Neosurf voucher values in Australia

The store locator lists three Australian values: AUD 10, AUD 50 and AUD 100. Any other amount means combining vouchers or leaving change on one.

You want to loadVouchers to buyLeft over
$202 x $10$0
$60$50 + $10$0
$75$50 + 3 x $10 ($80)$5
$150$100 + $50$0
$2502 x $100 + $50$0

Neosurf's FAQ also mentions "Minor" vouchers in some countries that cannot be used on age-verified sites. The Australian values above are the standard vouchers.

How to check your Neosurf balance

Go to the Check Voucher page on neosurf.com and enter the full PIN. Neosurf says this is the only page that can verify a voucher. Any other website, chat agent or caller offering to "check" your code is trying to take it.

If you did not spend the whole voucher, the rest stays on the PIN. Neosurf says you can spend the remaining value or move it to another voucher.

Refunds and the 5% fee

The shop that sold the voucher cannot refund it. Neosurf says resellers cannot refund a code for anti-money laundering reasons. To get unspent money back:

  1. Open a free myNeosurf account (you must be over 18).
  2. Deposit the voucher balance into the account.
  3. Withdraw to a bank account in the same name as the myNeosurf account.
  4. Pass the identity check, which Neosurf says is requested for every refund.
  5. Pay the 5% fee on the amount refunded.

Worked example: you buy a $50 voucher and spend $35. The $15 left costs 5% to refund, which is 75 cents, so $14.25 reaches your bank, after an ID check. For small amounts it is often simpler to spend the balance on a site you already use.

myNeosurf accounts

A myNeosurf account is an electronic money account linked to a personal Neosurf PIN. Neosurf says anyone over 18 can open one, no documents are needed to start, and identity checks apply for larger limits. You can load it with vouchers or a bank transfer, and withdraw to your bank account or onto a new cash voucher. Opening it is free, but Neosurf says fees may apply when you withdraw.

Neosurf scams to watch for

Because a Neosurf payment cannot be reversed, scammers ask for voucher codes. For scams aimed at gamblers, such as fees to release winnings, see our online casino scams guide. Neosurf's warnings are specific:

  • Never give a PIN over the phone, by email or to a person.
  • Never pay with Neosurf on classified sites such as Gumtree or eBay.
  • Never pay an individual, a social media seller or anyone who contacted you first.
  • Neosurf vouchers need no activation, so a demand for an "activation fee" is fake.
  • A refund offer that asks for your PIN first is a scam. Real refunds go through myNeosurf.

Pundit tip: buy the value you plan to spend, not a round $100 "to be safe". Money sitting on a voucher is easy to spend and costs 5% to get back.

Using a voucher at a casino

Neosurf says thousands of websites accept it, online casinos among them, but a voucher can only pay in. Our Neosurf casino Australia guide explains what that means for withdrawals and bonuses. Online casinos cannot be licensed in Australia; read are online pokies legal in Australia before you deposit anywhere. To compare vouchers with PayID, cards and eWallets, see casino payment methods in Australia.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I buy a Neosurf voucher in Australia?

Neosurf's store locator shows more than 13,000 points of sale in Australia, supplied through ePay, with retailer logos including Ampol, BP, Coles, EG Group and OTR. Ask at the counter, as not every store carries it. You can also buy from Neosurf's approved online resellers.

What values do Neosurf vouchers come in?

Neosurf's store locator lists AUD 10, AUD 50 and AUD 100 vouchers for Australia. To pay another amount, combine vouchers or leave the rest on the voucher for later.

How do I check my Neosurf balance?

Enter the full PIN on Neosurf's Check Voucher page at neosurf.com. Neosurf says that is the only page that can verify a voucher, so never type the PIN into another site that offers to check it.

Do Neosurf vouchers need to be activated?

No. Neosurf says vouchers can be used immediately with no further activation. A message telling you to pay a fee to activate a voucher is a scam.

Can I get a refund on a Neosurf voucher?

Not from the shop. Neosurf says resellers cannot refund a code. You can open a free myNeosurf account, deposit the voucher and withdraw to a bank account in your own name, after an ID check and a 5% fee.

Can I withdraw money to a Neosurf voucher?

Not to a voucher you bought. The voucher only pays out. A myNeosurf account can receive money from sites that support it and pay it on to your bank account, with fees that may apply.
